BOX TECHNIQUE

Bone regeneration in the field of dentistry has become a topic of great interest, especially in cases where it determines a constraint to the implant reabilitation. Continuing research, new materials the rising expectations of the patient are the main forces that drive us to seek solutions that would enable to formulate more predictable and less invasive rehabilitation plans.   The BOXTECHNIQUE  is a new prosthetically and aesthetically guided bone regenerative technique that uses only absorbable materials which are processed naturally by the body.   This revolutionary method does not require the use of patient’s autologous bone in the regeneration process, thus  minimizing the surgical sessions     The BOXTECHNIQUE was invented in November  2008 by Dr.Andrea Menoni. It is the fırst prosthetically guided bone regenerative technique which aims  at fully restoring lost bone volume in the three space dimensions by using only absorbable materials, polilactic acid (PDLLA DL-lactide).   This...

BLEACHING

Every day, a thin coating forms on the enamel and picks up stains. Tooth enamel also contains pores that can hold stains. There are several reasons for teeth to get yellow or stained such as, using “tobacco”, drinking “coffee-tea-cola-etc.” a lot and “not taking good care of your teeth.” Aging also makes teeth less bright. During the period the enamel gets thinner and the  dentin becomes darker. On the other hand, antibiotics can stain a child’s teeth if it is taken by a child who is in early age. Bleaching is very common usage of whitening procedure. It can be applied by your dentist (office bleaching) or you can apply this at home by yourself. Home bleaching: A mould is prepared covering whole upper or lower jaw. You should put the whitening gel in it and it must be applied for 5-8 hours. It takes 10-14 days. Avoid from harm effects...

MOUTH SORES (Aphtha – Canker)

MOUTH SORES (Aphtha – Canker) Mouth ulcersare sores that appear in the mouth, often on the inside of the cheeks. Mouth ulcers, also known as aphtha ulcers, can be painful when eating, drinking or brushing teeth. Occasional mouth ulcers are usually harmless and clear up on their own. Seek medical adviceif they last longer than 3 weeks or keep coming back. Mouth ulcers cannot be caught from someone else. Up to 1 in 5 people get recurrent mouth ulcers. The exact cause of most mouth ulcers is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers. Certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger mouth ulcers. Some cases of complex mouth ulcers...

Tooth-Friendly Foods

It is widely known that some foods cause tooth decay. These foods include carbohydrates. * Any candy, * Sodas, any sugary beverage, including tea, * Cakes, cookies, gelatin desserts, ice-cream etc. are in this group. I am sure that everyone has some form of information on this topic.   SO; ARE THERE FOODS OR BEVERAGES THAT COMBAT TOOTH DECAY? Today, when an awareness to eat health is gaining popularity day by day, this issue is still not very clear.
As they are rich in calcium, milk and dairy products strengthen the main structure of your teeth; though there is an ingredient in cheese that gives tooth decay a really hard time. CASEIN: Casein is the name of a group of proteins that are dominant in milk. Casein is found in any animal milk, including human milk. CASEIN that is found in cheese is preventive against tooth decay. Snacking on cheese, having a...

Tooth Pain

With more foods consumed cold in summer; tooth pain sometimes roots from either a decay, or a dental abrasion. What can be done? Should you wait it off, or consult a dentist right away? Read on to make your choice. There is a space called Pulpa inside our teeth that hosts veins and nerves. There is a cavernous layer called dentin, covering it. Nerves extend into the cavernous structure of this layer. In the case of healthy teeth, these nerves do not respond painfully to the changes of heat, because the enamel covers the dentin layer like its armor, protecting the pulpa from external factors. Though, when the enamel gets damaged, a sensitivity to cold ensues. At this point, we shall discuss how the enamel may become damaged. TOOTH DECAY: Your teeth will start to decay after being infested with micro-organisms. As a result, the enamel gets stripped away, exposing the...

It is easier to reverse habits in the beginning periods in teenage years, but for adults these habits have become much stronger and the damage done is even deeper, even if they give up smoking, they will have to deal with the negative effects for some time. This is why I hope you teens will give up this damaging habit while you can. Let us discuss some negative effects of smoking: 1-BAD BREATH: A cigarette causes bad breath, while you are smoking it, or even after putting it out. The Effect of Anger and Stress on Your Teeth

Source: MAG, September 2014 – Year 11 – Issue: 108, pages: 244-245 Anger is a perfectly healthy and natural status, when you express it without harming yourself or the environment in any way. Yet, when your anger gets out of control and becomes destructive, there will be problems in your health. Despite the fact that our society fails to teach us how to deal with anger, we are quite talented in creating stress in the daily lives of each other. Where there is no correct communication or empathy, stress and anger are dominant. Besides, angry women are shunned in our society, whereas men are encouraged to express their anger. Anger and stress create unwanted sensations in your body. Emotions are energy. They need to be released. Many people eat when they are angry. There is a need to eliminate the new negative energy through grinding teeth. This is why people binge...

Reasons of Tooth Decay

WHY DO WE GET TOOTH DECAYS? The bacteria in your mouth are predominantly on your tongue and teeth. As their natural features, they may form acids from the residues of sugary and floury foods. These acids dissolve the mineral structure, interfering with tooth enamel and kickstart tooth decay. They cause little holes, named cavities by dentists. Once overlooked for centuries, tooth decay is now recognized as a disease “with multiple causes”. There are three main factors that cause tooth decay: * Bacterial plaques (also known as tartar) * Foods with carbohydrates (like flour, sugar etc.) * The characteristics of a particular person – for example, the amount and quality of their saliva. If one of these factors change for a person with stable dental health, tooth decay shall be inevitable. HOW DOES A TOOTH DECAY OCCUR AND PROGRESS? Tooth decay always starts at the surface of your tooth and progresses into...

As the school season is starting, a new subject is now on our agenda: “Eating habits of school children.” Of course, weight issues and obesity are the most important health problems in our century, but oral health is just as important. In addition, sugary sodas and sweetened beverages, including sweetened milk, affect dental health. Hence, in schools where your children does not have an option to brush their teeth after consuming such foods or beverages while at school, this issue poses a serious threat, contributing to tooth decay. Milk Teeth and Their Development

THE ERUPTION OF MILK TEETH On their first birthday, your baby’s first 6 teeth have erupted. The first central incisors become visible in the first 6 months. Their lateral incisors are visible by month 8. Four posterior molars erupt between months 10-14, canines in months 16-20 and finally, the posterior big molar teeth erupt between months 24-30. EARLY AND LATE ERUPTION OF TEETH The eruption of milk teeth begins in month 6, continuing until month 9. Though, for some children, these rules do not apply. Unlike other babies, these babies have their eruption 2 months earlier, or 2 months later. In addition, although rarely, some children are born with few teeth erupted. These teeth are sometimes actual milk teeth. However, they may also be calcified blossoms without roots. If they obstruct breast feeding, they have to be pulled out. ERUPTION AND DISEASES The symptoms of teeth eruption do not affect the...

Methods of Treatment for a Single Missing Tooth

“Does a single tooth matter? I had 32 teeth, one of them going missing is no big deal. I still have 31.” We are now aware that such a mindset is wrong. Furthermore, we now know that the other teeth shift and slide to fill this space and even your spine may get affected by this sliding motion. Your teeth are like the cogs of the jaw bone, the loss of one of these cogs affects the entire system. For this reason, even when a single tooth is lost, the loss should be compensated. The first big molar teeth come out at age 6, when the child lacks the habit of brushing teeth and has a sweet tooth. These teeth get damaged between ages 6 and 8 without protective measures. At first, they decay and following the steps of fillings and root canal treatments, their condition gets worse and they may...

How May I Get Implants If I Lack Bones in the Upper Molar Region?

PROCEDURES TO HEIGHTEN THE SINUS BASE It is certain that many patients now choose implants for their high rate of success and comfort. Although many patients wish to have implants, some do not have proper bon structures for such procedures. Early tooth loss promotes thinning of the jawbone. Therefore, for the bone losses that occur especially on the upper jaw teeth, the sinus base sagging down is effective. The sinus base has to be increased in order to apply an implant treatment. Today, the advancements in dentistry make the implantation of patients with bone defects on the upper jaw posterior area possible for the dentists, through new methods of therapy. THERE ARE TWO METHODS SUGGESTED FOR THIS: A) HEIGHTENING THE UPPER SINUS BASE VIA THE TRANSCRESTAL METHOD: In the regions where the toothless space has adequate width and the height is minimum 5mms where the sinus base is straight, the base...

Fluoride Varnishes

In addition to the improvements we witness in dentistry each day, protective treatments are also on the rise. These therapies aim to provide protection for your teeth before they decay. This is achieved by strengthening tooth enamels and making them more resistant to decays. Along with fissure sealant applications, fluoride varnishes are used on adults regularly, as on pre-school children. Fluor varnishes include 5% sodium fluoride. This percentage is quite high, compared to toothpastes or mouthwash liquids. They increase the fluoride level in your enamels by 77% following their application. (6 robler SR, oquard B, Rolla 6, flouride uptake by sound enamel atter in vivo Duraphant application J. Dent Assos S. Atr 1983; 38:55-58) WHO CAN RECEIVE FLUORIDE VARNISH TREATMENTS? -Teethed individuals between the ages 1 and 99 make use of fluoride varnishes as a prevention against tooth decay. -Fluoride varnishes are also used to support mouth hygiene during orthodontic treatments....

Dental Veneers, Composite Laminates And The Adhesive Bonding System

Nowadays, everyone wishes to look perfect. To achieve the perfect appearance and get rid of their “imperfections”, people turn to cosmetic treatments. It is possible to alter a person’s teeth cosmetically, elements that have a great role in a person’s appearance. The need to have a pearly white smile brings along fast-paced developments in the sector of dentistry. One of the most popular methods developed in this aspect is dental veneers. They are applied just onto the outer, visible surfaces of a person’s teeth. Just like coating furniture with a thin layer of varnish onto the inner parts of furnitures to achieve a desired look, or a particular color, a person’s appearance may be altered by porcelain, or composite, veneers that are applied onto the outer surfaces of their teeth. While keeping their actual teeth intact behind the veneers, veneers in desired colors or features may be applied onto them. WHAT...

Dental Phobia

If your heart begins to race wildly and you get stomach cramps just by looking at the title, this post is for you. Dental phobia, the phobia that force-chokes you at the mere thought of visiting your dentist and drives you to live with the pain of a decayed, or a missing tooth is actually quite ungrounded. How? Well, in today’s dentistry we are able to apply dental procedures to eliminate phobias, rather than building onto them. Besides, today’s technology is quite advanced. Let’s discuss the reasons behind “dental phobia” and how it spreads in a society.   FEAR IS A NATURAL EMOTION: Fear has its place in the human nature, which means that it is perfectly natural. Fears help us continue our daily lives. If we did not feel fear, we would continuously take risks without thinking about the consequences they may bring. Fear is why we have safe zones....

Dental Health and Dental Problems During Pregnancy

DENTAL HEALTH AND PREGNANCY We all wish to enjoy our pregnancy periods. We all hope to give birth to healthy babies after pregnancy. The field to which women pay the most attention during pregnancy is nutrition. The attention paid for nutrition is for the good of their children, through better bone structures or higher quotients of intelligence. Yet, isn’t nutrition also important for oral and dental health? The buds of baby teeth and permanent teeth form inside your baby’s jaw while you are pregnant. Having a high mineral intake will strengthen the dental structure of your baby. Calcium, phosphor, potassium and vitamins, elements that we always need, are needed even more during pregnancy. You have to mind what you eat if you wish to straighten the dental buds of your babies and the final three-month period of pregnancy is especially important.   Common thoughts: “I had many episodes of nausea, I...
