BOX TECHNIQUE

Bone regeneration in the field of dentistry has become a topic of great interest, especially in cases where it determines a constraint to the implant reabilitation. Continuing research, new materials the rising expectations of the patient are the main forces that drive us to seek solutions that would enable to formulate more predictable and less invasive rehabilitation plans.   The BOXTECHNIQUE  is a new prosthetically and aesthetically guided bone regenerative technique that uses only absorbable materials which are processed naturally by the body.   This revolutionary method does not require the use of patient’s autologous bone in the regeneration process, thus  minimizing the surgical sessions     The BOXTECHNIQUE was invented in November  2008 by Dr.Andrea Menoni. It is the fırst prosthetically guided bone regenerative technique which aims  at fully restoring lost bone volume in the three space dimensions by using only absorbable materials, polilactic acid (PDLLA DL-lactide).   This...

BLEACHING

Every day, a thin coating forms on the enamel and picks up stains. Tooth enamel also contains pores that can hold stains. There are several reasons for teeth to get yellow or stained such as, using “tobacco”, drinking “coffee-tea-cola-etc.” a lot and “not taking good care of your teeth.” Aging also makes teeth less bright. During the period the enamel gets thinner and the  dentin becomes darker. On the other hand, antibiotics can stain a child’s teeth if it is taken by a child who is in early age. Bleaching is very common usage of whitening procedure. It can be applied by your dentist (office bleaching) or you can apply this at home by yourself. Home bleaching: A mould is prepared covering whole upper or lower jaw. You should put the whitening gel in it and it must be applied for 5-8 hours. It takes 10-14 days. Avoid from harm effects...

MOUTH SORES (Aphtha – Canker)

MOUTH SORES (Aphtha – Canker) Mouth ulcersare sores that appear in the mouth, often on the inside of the cheeks. Mouth ulcers, also known as aphtha ulcers, can be painful when eating, drinking or brushing teeth. Occasional mouth ulcers are usually harmless and clear up on their own. Seek medical adviceif they last longer than 3 weeks or keep coming back. Mouth ulcers cannot be caught from someone else. Up to 1 in 5 people get recurrent mouth ulcers. The exact cause of most mouth ulcers is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers. Certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger mouth ulcers. Some cases of complex mouth ulcers...

AESTHETIC GINGIVAL ARRANGEMENTS

TARTAR What is tartar? Even if you take great care of your teeth at home, you still have bacteria in your mouth. Saliva mix with proteins and food by products to form a sticky film called dental plaque. This gunk coats your teeth (even hard-to-clean areas like your back teeth), gets under your gum line, and sticks to fillings or other dental work. What happens if I don’t make the tartar cleaned? Every time you eat, the bacteria create acids that can damage tooth enamel and lead to cavities. The acids can also lead to inflamed or infected gums. But, if you remove plaque regularly, you can prevent permanent tooth decay. Bigger problems arise if plaque stays on your teeth and hardens into tartar. It can form in a little over a day, and once it’s there, only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove it. Although no decays, my teeth...

What is Face Lift Dentistry?

In time, everything in nature gets abraded and older. Just like our skin, our teeth get old. There is a layer, called the enamel, as the most outer surface of the structure of a tooth. The enamel makes your teeth appear lively and shinier. When we smile, it makes our smile gleam with its shiny appearance. Though, in time, that lively enamel gets abraded, turns matte, cracks and even breaks off. Your enamel gets old in time. With the abrasion, your teeth become vulnerable to abrasion as well, giving your lower face an older appearance. YOUR TEETH ARE SUPPORTIVE SYSTEMS FOR THE LOWER PART OF YOUR FACE. Your incisors support your lips. One mm of abrasion on your incisors cause 3 mms of loss of your lips. While talking, or grinning, your incisors support your lips. BRUSHING INCORRECTLY, CONSUMING ACIDIC FOODS OR NUTS ABRADE THE ENAMEL OFF FROM YOUR INCISORS. Your...

What Happens To Our Teeth When We Get Older? Are Prosthetic Palates Our Demise?

“MY TEETH WERE LIKE PEARLS WHEN I WAS YOUNG.” So, what now? Well, unfortunately, everything in nature gets abraded in time. Our teeth are mo exception. The layer that surrounds our teeth is a strong one and it is called enamel. This layer gets abraded in time. So, what abrades it? -Consumption of acidic foods or beverages: Pickles, sodas etc. -Abrasive toothpastes: These are bleaching pastes, dusts or carbonates that are rich in abrasive materials. -Brushing incorrectly: Especially relying on the horizontal motion more than you should. -Grinding and clenching teeth -Wrong restorations etc. -Relying on incisors too much to crack nuts with shells -Consuming something hot right after something cold, or vice versa. Such abrasions and breakages are treated with related measures when they are not too complex. Especially against abrasions due to brushing incorrectly, reviewing the habit of brushing and using special stick-on systems work like a charm. There...

Tooth-Friendly Foods

It is widely known that some foods cause tooth decay. These foods include carbohydrates. * Any candy, * Sodas, any sugary beverage, including tea, * Cakes, cookies, gelatin desserts, ice-cream etc. are in this group. I am sure that everyone has some form of information on this topic.   SO; ARE THERE FOODS OR BEVERAGES THAT COMBAT TOOTH DECAY? Today, when an awareness to eat health is gaining popularity day by day, this issue is still not very clear.
As they are rich in calcium, milk and dairy products strengthen the main structure of your teeth; though there is an ingredient in cheese that gives tooth decay a really hard time. CASEIN: Casein is the name of a group of proteins that are dominant in milk. Casein is found in any animal milk, including human milk. CASEIN that is found in cheese is preventive against tooth decay. Snacking on cheese, having a...

Tooth Pain

With more foods consumed cold in summer; tooth pain sometimes roots from either a decay, or a dental abrasion. What can be done? Should you wait it off, or consult a dentist right away? Read on to make your choice. There is a space called Pulpa inside our teeth that hosts veins and nerves. There is a cavernous layer called dentin, covering it. Nerves extend into the cavernous structure of this layer. In the case of healthy teeth, these nerves do not respond painfully to the changes of heat, because the enamel covers the dentin layer like its armor, protecting the pulpa from external factors. Though, when the enamel gets damaged, a sensitivity to cold ensues. At this point, we shall discuss how the enamel may become damaged. TOOTH DECAY: Your teeth will start to decay after being infested with micro-organisms. As a result, the enamel gets stripped away, exposing the...

The Importance of Gum Treatments before an Implant Therapy

Implant treatments are the most popular type of treatments used for missing teeth. With their rising popularity as the patient satisfaction rises, implant treatments require pre-treatment procedures before application. These procedures make implant therapies longer-lasting and more successful. There is always a reason behind tooth loss. Gum diseases are the most frequent reasons behind such losses. If the causes of gum diseases are not eliminated before an implant therapy, they cause problems near implants in time after their application (IMPLANTITIS). If there are microorganisms causing the gum disease, this means that the gum disease will be persistent. To deal with this issue (combatting microorganisms), we initially need to remove the microorganisms to prevent them from forming hosts for themselves again. ASSESSING ORAL FINDINGS BEFORE AN IMPLANT TREATMENT - ARE BLEEDING GUMS AN ISSUE? Is there bleeding on gums during brushing teeth? In the case of an active periodontal disease, the implant...

Quick Fixes in Cosmetic Dentistry

Gum makeover is not an imperative need. Before some occasions, the need to be approved and the fear of rejection increases in some people. In this regard, while they were okay with the color of their teeth, or the spaces in-between until a particular day, they may need quick fixes to look better before their wedding, or an important ceremony. Everyone should be given an opportunity to change. At Dental Estetik Center, that is what we do, after demonstrating what may be done to give them the confident smile they deserve. At first, we assess their needs. We ask them quick test questions to figure out what makes them unhappy about their teeth; is it: - the shape of their teeth? - the position of their teeth? - how they appear when they smile? - their gums? In this context, the problem is determined through analyses. Our patient is determined whether...

Patient Expectations in Cosmetic Dentistry

WHAT ARE PATIENTS’ EXPECTATIONS IN TOOTH CONSTRUCTION? Not always do patients have cosmetic concerns when they refer to our clinic. These patients are amazed to learn that the stains on their teeth that cause others to ask why they are never brushing their teeth are not caused by smoking, but instead, caused by antibiotics taken during childhood; as much as they are amazed to learn that there is a fix for that. Though, when they refer to us with a specific dental design in mind, one that would never fit their face, an issue between us and them becomes inevitable. There are many advantages of a fancy smile. Every person has teeth criteria that fit their facial structure. So, what should be done? WHAT PROBLEMS DOES THE PATIENT HAVE, REGARDING THEIR ORAL AND DENTAL STRUCTURE? ARE YOU ABLE TO SMILE FREELY? Do you usually keep your lips together while having your...

Ozone Applications in Dentistry

The first thing that comes to our mind about ozone is the layer that protects Earth from the harmful rays that may cause skin cancer. Though, today, many fields make use of ozone. As it is extremely reliable, it is widely used: -To sterilize water and mineral water in big cities, -In air cleaning systems, -In swimming pools, -To store and clean fruits, vegetables, meat, chicken and fish, -In the field of medicine, a use that is gaining popularity every day. Ozone was first used in the field of medicine due to its healing ability. In 1900s, in the US and across European countries, many researches were conducted on ozone. When the advantages of its destructive effect on viruses, bacteria and fungi, dentists adopted it, as well. THE USES OF OZONE IN DENTISTRY: -In treatments for tooth decay: There are many bacteria inside a person’s mouth. These bacteria cause tooth decay...

Orthodontic Treatments: When to Start?

When baby teeth come off and permanent teeth start to erupt, parents start worrying – “What if my child will have crooked teeth?” This is the biggest problem and fear of parents who also have crooked teeth themselves. The lower incisors erupt behind baby teeth and in a V shape. In addition, there are ruffles at the tips of these. The upper incisors, unlike their lower counterparts, erupt in front of baby teeth. They also have the ruffles at the tips. Both occurrences are perfectly normal. Lower teeth twist toward the front with tongue pressure, while upper ones twist toward the back due to the pressure of lips. The ruffles at the tips of teeth are “developmental ruffles”. They straighten out after the eruption. Mixed teething starts at the age o 7 and ends at the age of 12. The looks of the teeth of their children during this period worry...

Mouth Dryness

One of the problems that occur in summer when the heat is unbearable is mouth dryness. In fact, if someone has an existing issue of mouth dryness it becomes even more severe in the summer. People always ignore the symptoms of a dry mouth, blaming the heat and then have to deal with issues like BAD BREATH, INFLAMMATIONS IN GUMS AND TEETH, A RAPID DECAY PROGRESSION afterwards, all byproducts of a dry mouth. Your saliva is extremely necessary and protective for your mouth. In short, just like tears in our eyes, our saliva acts as a protective, slippery layer. It prevents food residues from sticking onto cheek tissues or teeth. The enzymes and proteins in your saliva break down your food and help you digest it. When the saliva level drops down to 50%, MOUTH DRYNESS occurs. REASONS OF A DRY MOUTH -For many pills, mouth dryness is listed as a...

Methods of Treatment for a Single Missing Tooth

“Does a single tooth matter? I had 32 teeth, one of them going missing is no big deal. I still have 31.” We are now aware that such a mindset is wrong. Furthermore, we now know that the other teeth shift and slide to fill this space and even your spine may get affected by this sliding motion. Your teeth are like the cogs of the jaw bone, the loss of one of these cogs affects the entire system. For this reason, even when a single tooth is lost, the loss should be compensated. The first big molar teeth come out at age 6, when the child lacks the habit of brushing teeth and has a sweet tooth. These teeth get damaged between ages 6 and 8 without protective measures. At first, they decay and following the steps of fillings and root canal treatments, their condition gets worse and they may...

Gum Adjustments, Gingivectomy, Gingivoplasty

Irregularities between gum levels affect your appearance, just like they affect your teeth. For example, here, the gum levels of the incisors are as they should be, but those of the small molar teeth are irregular. As a result, these teeth appear shorter than they actually are. Without any adjustments on gum levels, these teeth will look short, regardless of the procedures applied. To deal with the irregularity, the gums should be shortened by 1-1,5 millimeters. Your gums consist of two parts. STICKY GUMS: These are the part of gums that are stuck onto the bone. NON-STICKY GUMS: These are the part of gums that hang freely at the necks of your teeth, not stuck onto your bones, just like the flesh where our nails grow. Gum adjustments are made on these areas. This procedure is also called a “GUM MANICURE”. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF GUM ADJUSTMENTS (GINGIVECTOMY?) 1.It helps...

Fluoride Varnishes

In addition to the improvements we witness in dentistry each day, protective treatments are also on the rise. These therapies aim to provide protection for your teeth before they decay. This is achieved by strengthening tooth enamels and making them more resistant to decays. Along with fissure sealant applications, fluoride varnishes are used on adults regularly, as on pre-school children. Fluor varnishes include 5% sodium fluoride. This percentage is quite high, compared to toothpastes or mouthwash liquids. They increase the fluoride level in your enamels by 77% following their application. (6 robler SR, oquard B, Rolla 6, flouride uptake by sound enamel atter in vivo Duraphant application J. Dent Assos S. Atr 1983; 38:55-58) WHO CAN RECEIVE FLUORIDE VARNISH TREATMENTS? -Teethed individuals between the ages 1 and 99 make use of fluoride varnishes as a prevention against tooth decay. -Fluoride varnishes are also used to support mouth hygiene during orthodontic treatments....
