Aynı yıl yine Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Plastik Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi Anabilim Dalında ihtisasa başladı. 2004 yılında Plastik Cerrahi Uzmanlığını alan Dr. Yazıcı 2004-2005 yılları arasında 1 yıl 3 aylık bir süre Amerikadaki Cleveland Clinic Foundationa bağlı Plastik Cerrahi/Mikrocerrahi Departmanında Araştırma Fellowu olarak çalıştı. Bu süre içinde birçok özgün makale yayınladı. Bunların arasında kemikli yüz nakli, üst çene ve beslenmesi korunarak aktarılan diş nakilleri konusunda canlıda ilk uygulamar da mevcuttur. Yüz nakli dışında bu süre içerisinde mikrodolaşım, doku dondurma teknikleri ve sinir deneysel cerrahisinde deneyim kazandı. 2006-2013 yılları arasında Kırıkkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Plastik Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi alanında Öğretim Üyesi olarak çalıştı. Aktif olarak cerrahi hizmetin yanısıra asistan ve öğrenci yetiştirdi. Bu dönem içinde ayrıca 2006 yılında 10 ay süreyle Ankara ONEP de ve askerlik hizmeti kapsamında GATA Yanık Merkezinde Uzman Hekim olarak çalıştı. 2012 yılında Plastik Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi alanında Doçentlik ünvanını almaya hak kazandı. Sağlık Bakanlığı tarafından El Cerrahi ve Ağız Yüz Çene Cerrahi Yan Dallarında diploma almaya hak kazandı. 2012 yılında ödüllendirildiği EURAPS Young Scholarship bursuyla Helsinki Töölö Hastanesinde üç ay çalıştı. 2012 yılında iki basamaklı sınava girerek EBOPRAS (Plastik Cerrahi Avrupa Board Sertifikası) sertifikası aldı. Dr. Yazıcı’nın kendi dalında iki adet patent başvurusu bulunmaktadır. Halen İstanbul Bilim Üniversitesinde Doçent olarak çalışan Dr. İlker Yazıcı akıcı/ileri düzeyde İngilizce bilmektedir.
